Code of conduct
Our pledge
Elixir Melbourne is a free monthly meetup for anyone who writes, learns or is curious about Elixir. We want every Event to be welcoming, friendly and safe for everyone, whatever your gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack of it) or technology choices.
Where it applies
This code applies to everyone taking part, including speakers, Members, Co-hosts, sponsors and guests. It covers:
- Events, including the venue, the breaks and any gathering before or after the talks
- The live stream and its chat
- This site
- Any other community space run under the Elixir Melbourne name
What we expect
Be kind. Be patient with people who are new to Elixir or new to the group. Listen when others are speaking. Give feedback on ideas, not on people. If someone asks you to stop, stop.
What we do not accept
We do not tolerate harassment in any form. Harassment includes:
- Offensive comments or jokes about gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity or religion
- Sexual images or language in talks, slides, demos or on the stream
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following
- Photographing or recording someone who has asked you not to
- Repeatedly disrupting a talk or any other part of an Event
- Unwelcome physical contact or sexual attention
This applies to everyone, including sponsors and Co-hosts.
What Co-hosts may do
Co-hosts may take whatever action they think is needed to keep an Event safe and welcoming. That includes:
- Warning you
- Asking you to leave the Event
- Removing you from the stream chat or from the site
- Asking you not to come back
If a Co-host asks you to stop, stop straight away.
How to report
If someone makes you feel unsafe or unwelcome, or you see it happen to someone else, tell any Co-host on the night. Afterwards, message any Co-host directly. Co-hosts will listen, take your report seriously and keep it confidential. If you want, we will help you contact venue security or the police, and help you feel safe for the rest of the Event.
